From One Year to The Next

CA January 10th, 2008

Leona’s “Bleeding Love” proved to be the biggest single of 2007. What does 2008 hold in store for us?Last year we saw Leona Lewis release her first album, “Spirit” from which the single “Bleeding Love” proved to be the biggest single of 2007.  After winning the xfactor in 2006 Leona took a considerable amount of time recording the album, for a TV Talent show winner.  But the wait was worth it, with the fresh beats and smooth lyrics this album is definitely worth a listen to.  The 2007 addition of xfactor saw Leon Jackson win, which shocked the bookies, who had placed Rydian Roberts as the favorite to win.  The question now is will Leon have the same success as Leona?  He stands a good chance of being in the top five, with the massive fan base that is built up around all of this style of talent contest.  I hope the album is not rushed and that we see the Motown vibe.  The future is looking bright for Leon with a large fan base and a reputable record label “SYCO” behind him, there is nothing stopping him from having a successful year.  For more information then please visit his website leonjacksonmusic.com

There are some great bands coming out this year.  One of the bands to keep an eye out for is The Script. The Script are one of Phonogenic’s new bands that they have signed.  The band sound is very similar to that of The Fray, but with a hint of Counting Crows.  The Script are a three piece Irish band, they have been playing in venues all over the UK and are due to release their debut single ‘We Cry’ in March.  The band’s music follows a steady beat with grappling lyrics.  Their music has a big production sound that is very tight and typical of this style of music.  Personally I would prefer to see the track “Before The Worst” being released as a single as I feel it is more representative of the band.  For more information visit the band’s website http://www.thescriptmusic.com/thescript.php

Another great band to look out for, is The Idlers from Lincolnshire. They are a 4 piece band that were formed in November 2005. The Idlers’ biggest gig was in August 2007 when they embarked upon the stages of Leeds Festival to represent Lincolnshire on the Topman Unsigned Stage. The band write all there own material, you could compare this band to the likes of Kaiser Chiefs or Klaxons. This band is definately one to look out for in 2008, their current single “Momentum/Silhouettes” is out now to buy. Please visit the band’s web site for more information theidlers.com

I think it is safe to say there are some great music treats in store for us this year, from the fresh sounds of Fiona Clayton to the Funk of Zarif. What new music do you think will be big this year? What will Britney Spears do in 2008? Please leave comments or post your own article.
